Buyer

Under general supervision, procures commodities and services considering price, quantity, delivery, quality, logistics, and carrying costs. Researches market place and maintains constant awareness of world-class suppliers and new products enhancing Company position by providing higher quality, lower costs, or both. Provides uninterrupted flow of assigned commodities to forecasted demand within budgeted inventory levels.
Essential Functions of the Job:
The duties of this job will include but are not limited to the following:
Conducts procurement activities in a professional manner consistent with HP Fairfield supplier partnership principles.
Evaluates suppliers' overall performance on price, quality, on-time delivery and warranty. May visit supplier locations.
Prepares and enters purchase orders, verifies prices, delivery dates, and follows through to receipt. Update system documents as needed.
Maintains on-hand and incoming purchased items within budgeted levels. Expedites material shortages. Evaluates purchase requisition for priority and needs.
Interfaces with traffic optimizing freight loads and minimizing costs in the most efficient manner possible.
Adheres to HP Fairfield & Alamo policies and procedures regarding ethics while procuring goods and services.
Reviews orders for accuracy, completeness, and product availability.
Reviews defective goods or services with Quality and/or Safety personnel.
Assists and work with fellow team members in Purchasing, Sales, Parts and Operations Departments.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to communicate with various levels both within the organization and with suppliers.
Able to coordinate multiple activities.
Proficient data entry, retrieval and analysis skills required.
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills required.
Ability to work with confidential information and under pressure to meet deadlines.
Aptitude for fast accurate data input into a computer system with acute attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma required. An Associate's Degree in Business with 2 years' relevant experience; or equivalent combination education and experience. Minimum 1-3 years previous experience in inventory control, production control, purchasing or scheduling required.
Working Conditions:
This job is rated as sedentary -- involves sitting most of the time, computer and word processing work 5+ hours per day. The position involves constantly talking, handling, fingering, hearing and field of vision. The noise level of this job is rated as moderate. Must be able to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays as required to complete job assignments.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
